The Battle of the Cats (this is for Kate)

So fortunately (or unfortunately if I could have been some good luck charm), I didn't have to watch the Tigers get massacred by Oklahoma this weekend because the game conflicted with the AckMe event. Anyway, we (The Missouri Tigers) are playing Northwestern in the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio on December 29th. It's big cat vs. big cat.

My dear friend Kate and her husband Joe (of Are we there yet? fame) both went to college and law school at Northwestern located in Evanston, IL. Northwestern was always one of my dream schools but in reality I never could have gotten in nor did I even try to get into any other school besides the University of Missouri. This leads me to tell you about one of the most embarrassing moments of my life.

Kate's older sister Beth also went to Northwestern. Kate and I visited her one or two times. On one particular visit while Kate and I were still in high school, Beth set up interviews with Northwestern faculty for Kate and me. I was mortified. Why I didn't prepare for this I have no idea. There is only one question I remember being asked during the interview, "What are you thinking about studying in terms of your major?" Hell, at the time I had no idea what I even wanted to study in college. It took me a good couple of years before I even declared a major at Mizzou. I answered, "I don't know, nursing?" This is when I found out that Northwestern did not offer a nursing program. Awesome! I cannot tell you what an out of body experience I had at that moment. It was like I was watching a really bad coming of age movie starring me.

I went on to visit Kate several more times at Northwestern and Chicago and have some great memories minus all the times I locked us out of her apartment even causing my friends and I to miss a flight. Maybe one day I'll make the big move to Chicago, but I will prepare for interviews this time.

Kate and Joe-I feel like we should start trash-talking. I love Northwestern, but Go Mizzou!

okay, I'm laughing out loud at my desk right now. I had forgotten that story. too hilarious!

yeah, I can't believe my 2 favorite teams are about to head off. I have said from the day I left for college though that if this ever were to happen, in football I'd root for Northwestern, in basketball, always the Tigers, baby.

Sooooo.......GO CATS!

Good story--although I bet you'll be wishing that you had obtained that nursing degree so that you could tend to your wounded Tigers after they are tub-thumped by the CATS.

I never heard it either!! That is too funny! I am sure I could not have passed a Northwestern interview either.

Would you really move to Chicago??

The reason you all had never heard that story is that it took me years to get over feeling like a complete moron. Susan-Chicago was and kind of still is a city I'd consider, but I still love Austin way too much!
