BBQ, Beer, and Bikes...a weekend with my Dad

My dad visited me this past weekend. It was his third time in Austin so I had to try to come up with some new and fun things to do. Here we are at Lady Bird Lake taking a break while walking the trail.

I had to take him to one of my favorite Austin spots, The Trailer Park so he could try Torchy's Tacos-I am obsessed! Luckily he loved it too.

Hello taco stand!

"The coolest place in Austin, Texas," according to my dad is Mellow Johnny's, Lance Armstrong's bike shop. We spent a couple of hours there! The store is cool but they also happened to be having a swap meet in back. My dad insisted on buying me a jersey and yes, I actually did wear it on Sunday on a bike ride despite feeling a bit like a poser.

We visited the Spoetzel Brewery in Shiner, TX-makers of Shiner Bock. We got to sample their different varieties, shop in the gift shop, and take a tour of the brewery. It was pretty cool. I can't believe Shiner all over the country comes from this little town of 2000!

Before driving to Shiner we stopped in Lockhart for some of their famous BBQ. (Notice how it's November and I'm still in a t-shirt! Crazy!)

Spoetzel Brewery again since I haven't learned how to put my pictures in order on blogger!

One of the fire pits smoking those big boxes of BBQ at Smitty's Market in Lockhart. It felt like we had stepped back in time.

We had no idea how much to order! Apparently we ordered too much. The brisket was so good! I'm still in a beef coma.

Lockhart-dang Dad and transition lenses!

You actually can't get Shiner all over the country. They have some sort of boundry lines...I can't remember exactly where the line is, but it's somewhere before New York. All my Texas friends miss it!!

Yes, I can't remember exactly what they said, but Shiner is in just about every state now. Crazy!

Susan - maybe it is heading your way. It hit Chicago last year.

Jessica - wow, that was a lot of brisket. And hey, wear that jersey with pride. We want pics.
