Thank you to a new friend for sharing all three CD's I've been wanting...new DeVotchka, Mates of State, and Old 97's! It's fun getting a new CD and realizing that you actually know some of the songs because of the number of times you've seen these bands. You being me. I just have a few weeks to learn all the new Mates of State songs before seeing them for the bajillionith time at Emo's. Emo's was the first place I ever saw Mates of State-in 01 or 02, not sure, but at that time they were playing inside the front of Emo's which is pretty small. They now play outside on the big Emo's stage and it gets super crowded. It's so crazy watching bands grow and get so popular. Makes me grateful that I "knew them when..."

you know what is weird - i think we have probably seen each other at some of the same shows for the last 8 or 9 years. i have seen them at Emo's so many times and if it was the show in 2001 with Beulah then i was so at that show and falling in love with Mates of State for the first time.
If it was sometime after August 2001 then yes, I probably would have been there. Don't think I've missed any of their Austin shows since then.
