Jessica's Letters 4/The Man 0

My letter writing "wins" again. I got mad letter writing skills. Let's recap...

Nabisco vs. Jessica's letter-Jessica wins=3 free boxes of Tomato Basil Wheat Thins
Corona Beer vs. Jessica's letter-Jessica wins=2 free crappy Corona t-shirts, Corona hat, 2 Corona plastic bracelets, 2 Corona lanyard things that allow you to wear your beer around your neck
Francesca's Collections vs. Jessica's letter-Jessica wins=2 free necklaces

My Apartment Complex vs. Jessica's letter-Jessica (kinda) wins=renegotiation

My apartment wanted to increase my rent by a butt load. I verbally tried to negotiate with the manager and talked her down to $50 a month increase. I told her this was still a lot and that I'd be shopping around. Since I really don't want to move I thought I'd try out my mad letter writing skills. I wrote the manager pleading my case and turned it in with my rent check. I got a call from her today telling me she could offer me a $25 a month increase on a 6 month lease. Not as great as I wanted because it's not for a 12 month lease, but I think I'm going to take a gamble on this one and accept the $25 increase. Thoughts? Advice. In the meantime I'm just going to take pride in my letter writing skills.

as a percentage of your total rent, how much of an increase is it, and how much did you save? How much would it cost you to move?

For $150, I'd say it's probably not a bad deal.

Write a letter to your boss asking for a 25$ a month raise.

Could you write a letter to MY apartment manager and ask them not to charge me a crapload of money for breaking my lease? That'd be great, thanks.

Definitely take the 6 months. You can always try to write another letter to get the same deal for the rest of the year. A $25 increase sounds pretty good to me. Oh, and I agree with the person who said to ask for a $25 raise. "They" say you're supposed to ask for more $$. I never do, but I probably should.
