Special Valentine's Gift

I got a very special surprise Valentine's Day gift in the mail from my parents...a pair of pearl earrings. My mom had given me pearl earrings for one of my birthdays and I wore those things everyday until I lost one of the pearls. The new earrings that I received were made from a pair of earrings that belonged to my late grandmother, or "Nanny." For those of you who don't know, Nanny was not your "typical" grandmother. She was trendy, fun, an American Idol fan, and actually not just my grandma, but a friend. I cried as soon as I realized what they were. I'm so lucky to have some special pieces of jewelry like the earrings that have so much meaning behind them.
Speaking of, I received another very special piece of jewelry for Christmas...a gold British coin that belonged to my grandfather, "Paw," Nanny's husband. My parents took it to Brazil and had it turned into a pendant. I wear it with my smaller Mexican coin pendant that I got for my 15th birthday. All the girls on my mom's side get a gold coin for their "quinceiera."

It sounds strange, but wearing these pieces is different than just putting on any piece of jewelry. I swear a new memory of my grandparents comes to mind every time I wear them.
