We lied to Rhett Miller

Lil' Rob and Lorena both made sure to tell me about the contest going on where you could go to a Rhett Miller "sound check party" and meet and greet. Now I knew Rhett Miller (of the Old 97's) was playing a solo show Friday night but I'll be honest, I am not a big fan of the solo Rhett stuff so I didn't go out of my way to get a ticket. It's kind of fun to see him play the Old 97's stuff and it's really fun to make fun of him and his ego. But 25 year old Jessica made me enter the contest and I won. Bobby and I already had tickets to go see "Paranormal Activity" at the Alamo so we just went to the sound check but did not stay for the show. We saw a little bit of the sound check and then Rhett came down and said hello to the 10 or so of us seated at some tables. He stood right in front of the table where Bobby and I sat. Rhett said, "Hi guys, thanks for coming to the focus group. I'm your jukebox." I did not expect him to then take requests and start playing acoustic all by himself right at our table like a mariachi band at a restaurant. It was a tad awkward, especially when his spit practically landed in Bobby's beer. But on the other hand, as a long time follower of the Old 97's it was kind of cool, a unique experience. Rhett sang one of his solo songs, "Four Eyed Girl," and two Old 97's songs, "Singular Girl" and "The Roads of Where I'm From." I have to admit that was kind of fun. So when Rhett finished singing to us he looked directly at me and Bobby and asked, "You guys going to the show tonight?" We both shook are heads yes and said, "mmhmm!" We lied to Rhett Miller. Sorry Rhett.
