Gettin' Rid of Crap

Totally stoked about the nerdiest things right now:  a tighter, leaner budget to meet some of our financial goals quicker and decluttering our apartment.  I'm having some issues with the decluttering part but I need to just do it and I'm actually excited to complete it.   My brain needs me to do it.  My bad habit of over-multi-tasking/aka not finishing what I start needs me to do it.  (I started the process but have been neglecting it again.)  A clean and organized environment for me is freedom.  It always has been especially when I have other projects that require focus like updating my resume, writing a piece for Mortified, or just reading a damn book!

One of my major goals in decluttering is to only keep clothes that I love and feel good in.  This is tougher than I thought it would be because I can come up with reasons for keeping a pair of pants I've had since college but haven't worn in a year.  It also makes me feel wasteful and guilty even if I think the clothes I get rid of could go on to another owner.  I know it will be good for me in the end.  A stuffed and disorganized closet adds stress to my life as crazy as it sounds.  I don't want to be that person who can't be more laid back but it's who I am.  Hmm, maybe my mom throwing away anything I left out on the bathroom counter had a deep impact on me.

Did Kate turn you on to Small NOtebook? It's a blog and hte lady lives well, but minimally. Her wardrobe discussions have completely turned me around. I cannot tell you how much stuff I have gotten rid of. I have now just stuff I wear and like and fits, which is probably half of what I originally owned. And it's seriously transformative. We must discuss....

SMALL NOTEBOOK is my life coach! Maggie beat me to the punch on telling you about that one. I love that lady. Will send you links to some of my favorite posts.

Soon you will find that purging is one of the best feelings in the world - it's so freeing!

Good luck.

Thanks girls! Can't wait to check it out! Bobby and I did a lot of kitchen purging pre-wedding and it really does feel amazing. I also got rid of tons of clothes before the summer but I know that there are just a handfull of items in my closet that actually make me feel good. I can't wait to get rid of that extra weight off my shoulders!
