Jennifer gave us goody bags at the beginning of class! I got little Naughty Secretary hairpins. Everyone got a different accessory. You can see a Sublime Stitching card. These are the embroidery patterns I use made by Austin artist Jenny Hart who's also friends with Jennifer.

These are my pendants that I made-all pictures are from a vintage children's book.
I went to my first jewelry class tonight taught by craft celebrity Jennifer Perkins, owner of Naughty Secretary Club and host of TV show, Craft Lab, on the DIY Network. She was so nice, creative, and plain awesome. The class was called Collage Cuties and focused on using paper in jewelry making. I kind of had been doing the same thing, but with magnet making. Jennifer showed us all kinds of examples of how any kind of paper can be used to revamp cheap jewelry. The paper she had for us to use included scrapbooking paper; vintage books; cards; wallpaper; and shredded magazine paper. We started with bangle bracelets. She gave us each a cheap plastic bangle that she bought at Claire's. We covered them in strips of paper. Next we made pendants and earrings. I'm going to turn my earrings into pendants because they are way too big for me. All of my pendants are made out of paper I cut out of a vintage book. It didn't feel right tearing up a book, but I had to tell myself that in a way turning the illustrations into jewelry is in a sense honoring the artwork. I'm looking forward to Saturday's class when we'll be making charm bracelets and earrings. My next big investment...a Dremel tool-Jennifer said that you can turn anything into jewelry with a Dremel.

I agree with Tobi. That jewelry looks awesome! Now I will just have to use you for your awesome jewelry crafting skills, and you can use me for my project room!
Thanks girls! I'm predicting a trip to Michael's in the very near future.
Hey Jessica - so glad you enjoyed the classes! You made such fun jewelry for both, how could I not blog about it. Can't wait to see what else you come up with and just email me if you have any other hot burning Dremel or jewelry finding questions.
