Okay, living in "The Live Music Capital" I feel like I should represent. Since SXSW I've seen a few good shows and a great Wilco documentary.
I saw Wilco's new documentary, "Ashes of American Flags" at the Alamo Drafthouse. It was difficult not to sing along. It was wonderful and proved once again that Jeff Tweedy is a genius. My favorite part of course is when Jeff Tweedy mentions Columbia, MO.
I went to Waterloo Records on Record Store Day. Yes, such a day exists. The mayor gave the proclamation plus it was announced that Waterloo was #2 in Spin Magazine's top indie record stores-pretty awesome! Then Mark Olson and Gary Louris from The Jayhawks performed. It was so nice to hear their voices again! I dug some of the new songs they sang.
Monday night I went to see Dengue Fever. I've only seen them once before after learning about them on NPR's Fresh Air. I instantly took a liking. They are out of LA but the singer is Cambodian and they perform Cambodian pop. It was a great show and now I must get a copy of their new documentary about their tour in Cambodia.
Last night I got to go see Heartless Bastards and Gaslight Anthem. I've seen the Heartless Bastards before and they are great. I had never heard Gaslight Anthem before but was extremely impressed. It's hard to really enjoy a show when you don't know the band but they were good.
The Austin City Limits music festival lineup has been announced. As of right now this will be the very first ACL that I miss. Unless I get an amazing deal or win a free pass I just don't think it's worth the price for me this year. I'm sure I'll end up feeling like I'm missing out since I've gone to every one of the festivals but oh well.
